Our Environmental & Infrastructure product line provides waterproofing, water purification, remediation and other fluid management technologies for critical projects for Remediation, Water Purification, and Infrastructure.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the MTI Global Environmental Director, this position is responsible for promoting continuous improvement by the full implementation and support of the MTI EHS processes for the Lafayette, LA, Aberdeen, MS, Belle Fourche SD Specialty Product Plants.  It will provide coaching and counsel to the plant managers, who are ultimately responsible and accountable for the compliance of their operation.  This role will also provide health, safety and environmental compliance oversight and support for other locations in US within MTI requiring support as assigned.

 

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Principal liaison with plant managers and BU EHS Director – providing EHS coaching and counsel to the plant management/leadership who ultimately own and are accountable for the compliance of their operational EHS risks.
  • Ensure the establishment of safety standards are consistent with or exceeding MTI, Applicable Federal, Government and other local standards.
  • Ensure a high level of compliance within all provincial, regional, and local standards, as well as ensuring environmental compliance within all global environmental regulations.
  • Develop an immediate short-term and multi-year plan to drive continuous improvement with specific and actionable steps for near term implementation and in alignment with MTI EHS Goals and objectives.
  • Lead and drive all regional plant organization’s implementation and improvement of key sustainability metrics.
  • Provide analysis of EHS performance metrics to the leadership teams at the plants to deepen understanding as well as provide improvement recommendations.
  • Provide assessment and recommendations for the continuous improvement of the safety culture.
  • Ensure EHS training processes are established and being adhered to so that training is conducted in an effective manner and in compliance with regulatory agency and MTI requirements.
  • Ensure management are adhering to all regulatory compliance at assigned plants.
  • Oversee the program management of environmental programs regulated by Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, hazardous waste, DOT, SARA at the plants.
  • Review and approve all new equipment, process changes and chemical changes for EHS impacts.
  • Utilize current audit processes (such as ENHESA and Velocity/KMI) to keep abreast of proposed changes to existing laws and their possible effects on all assigned facilities, and take action with BU EHS director and site leadership or plant management to address these items on a proactive basis, as needed.
  • Ensure corrective actions related to any items of improvement from third party inspections are brought to the Company’s attention and tracked to completion.
  • Participate in Health & Safety Committee meetings and activities to ensure consistent implementation of safety initiatives and act as the main point of contact for data requests and administrative purposes.
  • Establish and oversee various plant EHS inspection processes identifying potential safety hazards, compliance issues and ensure timely correction of all items noted
  • Coordinate and support investigations and root cause analysis for injuries, releases, regulatory deviations, near miss incidents and property damage incidents
  • Ensure a contractor safety management process (including periodic inspections and correction of violations) is in place and meets all regulatory/statutory and company requirements.
  • Conduct safety analyses on job functions and work with site management and employees to reduce and manage risk.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and assist in negotiation of permit requirements and other regulatory initiatives.
  • Ensure that safety reviews are conducted for all new process equipment and projects for proper installation.
  • Work with the Plant Managers and BU EHS Director to field and respond to neighborhood concerns regarding dust, noise, etc.
  • Provide oversight to environmental remediation efforts as necessary.
  • Provide oversight and support for the sustainability report data collection process.
  • Performing and maintaining the industrial hygiene program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Continuous Improvement/Lean:

  • Acts as resource and champion for continuous improvement activities (Suggestion Program, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, problem solving, etc.).
  • Work with Plant Managers and Plant Teams to ensure individual employee involvement in continuous improvement activities.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Safety with 10 years’ EHS experience in a manufacturing or a production setting.
  • CSP and or CIH is preferred.
  • 3+ years’ Must have managed environmental programs (CAA, CWA, Hazardous Waste, and SARA).
  • 5+ years’ experience with federal regulatory compliance, reporting, training, and tracking.
  • Experience in process safety management (PSM) a plus
  • Implemented or managed ISO systems (9001, 14001, 45001)

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to speak and read English.
  • Must have experience with managing environmental regulations, standards, and implementation of environmental programs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with managing safety regulations, standards, and implementation of programs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience implementing a safety culture change successfully is a plus.
  • Experience in conducting FMEA and root cause analysis.
  • Experience in Industrial Hygiene program management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies is a requirement.   Incumbent must have a proven track record of collaborating with others to implement EHS processes and systems that facilitate continuous improvement, maintain compliance, and reduce risk.
  • Incumbent must have the ability to communicate effectively, to motivate others and to promote a positive work atmosphere. The incumbent must be a persistent self-starter who can work effectively and champion projects with minimum oversight. 
  • Must be able to work effectively with all levels and cultures of employees within the company and any/all individuals outside of the company. Incumbent must have demonstrated a willingness to challenge conventional ideas, be flexible, innovative and be able to function effectively in a team format.

Ability to instruct/transfer job information/knowledge to others is required.

Working Conditions:

  • There is exposure to plant production areas, which may include exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes. Exposure to plant areas requires the use of appropriate safety equipment.  Personal protective equipment is available for employee use in these circumstances.
