Job Summary:

The QA Specialist is largely responsible for leading the Quality Assurance of Lucerne Valley, CA site, maintaining specifications, quality databases and is the primary investigator of quality related complaints from customers.  He/she provides technical information to customers and the sales group. Works safely and actively promotes the safety culture and philosophy of MTI in all work activities.

 

Compensation: $38-$41/hr

Responsibilities

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Creates and distributes quality reports to customers
  2. Pro-actively maintains compliance with FDA and other worldwide pharmacopeia programs (where applicable) including but not limited to maintaining cGMP compliance, HACCP program, facility registration with FDA and ISO 9001 and other pertinent defense programs.
  3. Oversees the efforts to provide Certificate of Analysis with specific orders
  4. Provides technical information to assist in product selection by new customers and the Sales group
  5. Investigates customer concerns related to product quality, and communicates customer requirements to plant personnel
  6. Maintains and proposes revisions to product specifications
  7. Oversees the test instrument verification program, and ensures the health of test instruments by arranging for repair or replacement
  8. Oversees the Small Sample Request program
  9. Reviews specifications and control parameters formulated by Research and Development for new products
  10. Helps develop and improve testing methods
  11. Represent QA in morning Gemba Walks
  12. Analyzing and monitoring the performance of products
  13. Developing and implementing test plans for product defects
  14. Reviewing and approving test results
  15. Developing and tracking test metrics
  16. Helping maintain the quality of products

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Trains and qualifies plant personnel in product testing and the use of quality databases
  2. Trains in Statistical Process Control; sets and maintains Control Limits on product properties
  3. Represents the QA function and customers in Kaizen or Problem Solving Teams
  4. Maintains the QA Laboratory and the test instruments within the plant
  5. Orders testing supplies for plant personnel
  6. Performs audits of compliance to the testing plan
  7. Creates and modifies written procedure regarding testing
  8. Leads new product or process trials when requested
  9. Determines the acceptability of customer specifications and makes recommendations to sales when requested.
  10. Makes personal visits to customer sites to provide QA support to sales and/or resolve issues
  11. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in quality assurance/control
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Highly developed attention to detail
  • Ability to read and speak English.

 

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to have the ability to work in an laboratory environment, using lab equipment as needed, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, follow instructions and other oral/written information, compose correspondence in a professional manner, complete paperwork and other documentation and enter information into electronic systems accurately, work independently and with others, communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization, analyze information/situations as needed, be organized and detail-oriented, be able to identify/judge the urgency of a situation, use judgment in decision making and use creativity and negotiation when necessary. 

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a controlled office environment, moving around the office as needed, sitting at a desk, and using office equipment, including but not limited to a personal computer, fax, copier and phone.  Constant contact with individuals internal and external to the organization occurs via various methods of communication typically including face-to-face discussions, electronic mail, phone calls, written letters and/or faxes.  Occasionally there will be exposure to plant production areas, which includes exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes.  Exposure to plant areas requires the use of appropriate safety equipment.  Personal protective equipment is available for employee use in these circumstances.

 

Additionally, the successful candidate must be able to direct/lead others, effectively handle conflict situations, display a cooperative demeanor, maintain composure, have integrity, persistence and initiative, as well as be dependable and adaptable to changing circumstances. Must have ability to work independently and to make appropriate decisions in a timely manner as well as handle multiple tasks efficiently.  Must develop effective working relationship with all individuals internal & external to MTI. Additionally, must read, understand and follow all company, job specific and safety policies/procedures, and attend/use all required training.

 

Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is to be provided New Employee Training from a qualified individual, which consists of classroom training and may include a tour of plant area(s). Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate and/or as dictated by MSHA regulations.

 

Upon transferring to perform the duties of this position for the first time an employee is to be provided New Task Training by a qualified individual until the employee adequately understands the contents of the training, which include job/work area procedures and related topics.  Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.

 

Work Hours: Must have ability to work the shift/number of hours in which duties need to be accomplished, including overtime, holidays and weekends, as necessary.
