Summary:

The Paper & Packaging N America Controller is responsible for providing financial leadership and guidance to Paper & Packaging North America locations including, but not limited to: (1) Ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SOX controls, (2) planning, organizing, and supervising the monthly close process (3) analyzing and reporting financial results to plant and divisional leadership (4) budget preparation and review; (5) financial forecast development (6) capital spend planning & analysis (7) financial evaluations to aid decision making (8) assisting Divisional Finance with reporting & analysis and strategy.

 

Location: Bethlehem, PA

 

Compensation: Approximately $140,000 per year with bonus potential 

 

Responsibilities

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

 

General:

  1. Participates in the preparation and review of the annual plant budgets and associated reviews.
  2. Recommends and implements improvements relating to all financial reporting aspects of the business.
  3. Prepares weekly/monthly reporting to facilitate plant and divisional financial reviews
  4. Analyzes business trends to provide explanations for the past and provide guidance for future
  5. Evaluates performance of plant activities and ensure achievement of growth targets
  6. Assists management and executives to achieve business objectives
  7. Assist operating personnel managing the business by a high level of financial analysis and management reports and give financial training and guidance to managers so that they can utilize financial information system and make well founded decisions
  8. Assists Divisional Finance with reporting and analysis
  9. Work with the commercial team on potential new business development opportunities
  10. Manage the customer price escalation process with commercial team
  11. Interface with external auditors on annual audit requirements as they relate to the business
  12. Ensure internal control procedures are in place and adjusts appropriately to local conditions. Monitors financial audits.
  13. Provides leadership, including performance management & development of talent within scope of responsibility.
  14. Other duties as assigned

 

Cost Accounting, Financial Planning, Reporting, and Analysis:

  1. Coordinates and implements the monthly closing process, including variance analysis
  2. Assists with the preparation, evaluation, and review of capital projects, including follow-up audits.
  3. Prepares monthly financial reviews, forecasts, and annual financial plan.
  4. Performs financial evaluations/discounted cash flow analysis to assist decision making
  5. Ensures adherence to US GAAP, Sarbanes Oxley, and Corporate Policies
  6. Manages and improves cash flow and working capital metrics
  7. Monitors ledger reconciliations
  8. Works closely with Commercial and Operations Managers to analyze business performance and forecast future results
  9. Works in conjunction with Shared Services to ensure accurate and timely accounting and reporting
  10. Supervise and lead general accounting and implements, manages and supervises accounting system.
  11. Ensure internal control procedures are in place and adjusts appropriately to local conditions

 

OE/Lean:

  1. Actively participates and leads others in the implementation of sustainable improvement processes, such as 5S, Kaizen, Daily Management Control, Standard Work and Problem Solving. Utilizes available OE tools.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Minimum 5 years in a leadership position, controllership or combination of assistant controller or accounting manager experience.  3-5 years of plant accounting experience.  Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline.  MBA and experience with Oracle and ESSBASE a plus. 

 

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a controlled office environment. Occasionally there will be exposure to plant production areas, which includes exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes.  Exposure to plant areas requires the use of appropriate safety equipment.  Personal protective equipment is available for employee use in these circumstances.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to have the ability to work in an office environment, using office equipment as needed, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, follow instructions and other oral/written information, compose correspondence in a professional manner, work independently and with others, communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization, analyze information/situations as needed, be organized and detail-oriented, be able to identify/judge the urgency of a situation, use judgment in decision making and use creativity and negotiation when necessary.

The employee is expected to be international in outlook with an understanding of cultural differences and sensitivity to the nuances of different marketplaces.

 

Travel:  Will travel as needed: domestically and internationally. 

 

Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is to be provided New Employee Training from a qualified individual, which consists of classroom training and may include a tour of plant area(s). Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate and/or as dictated by MSHA/OSHA regulations.
