Generally, undergraduate students selected for the program have completed their sophomore year.  Summer internships are typically 11 weeks in length but can vary.

Position: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern

Location: On-site in Lucerne Valley, CA

Compensation: $23.00 to $25.00/hour

Responsibilities

Primary Duties

The EHS Intern will assist in carrying out various Environmental Health and Safety responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

  • Help to develop and provide EHS training for employees
  • Perform risk assessments on routine and non-routine tasks throughout the mine
  • Participate in task specific safety evaluations
  • Provide insight into the current state of EHS programs/policies and offer suggestions for improvements
  • Research current and upcoming regulatory compliance standard (MSHA, CalOSHA, MDAQMD, CUPA, EPA, and others…) with the goal developing strategies to meet compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned by EHS Manager/EHS Tech

  • Working toward bachelor’s degree in related field
  • College Level Math Skills.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, ..).
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and make sound decisions based on safety and health.
  • Full Professional Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs.
  • High Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where there is only limited standardization.
  • Ability to effectively present information to various people as the job requires.
  • Ability to work safely and independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to display original thinking and creativity. Provide sound guidance on regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to hold oneself in a professional manner.
  • Must have the ability to climb multiple flights of stairs, work at various heights above the ground, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, twist, lift, climb, push and pull to evaluate equipment in a production environment.

 

Work Conditions: Manufacturing facility.  Plant process areas contain ladders, walkways, tight places, confined spaces, uneven terrain, and stairs, both inside and outside. 

 

Travel: Travel is possible.  

      

Work Hours:  As agreed upon, based on intern availability and business needs.

 

Safety Training:  A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual or through the online training system.  Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.

 

Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate or as dictated by government regulations.
