Job Summary 

The Manager of Learning and Talent Development at MTI will play a crucial role in enhancing and coordinating organization-wide talent management strategies and activities, including education and training, potential assessments, succession planning, and leadership development (e.g., IDPs/360s). They will employ a data-driven approach, aligning with ongoing strategic imperatives, collaborating with internal customers, and implementing/managing a measurement system to evaluate the effectiveness of MTI’s talent management efforts. 

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Global Training and Learning Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive global training and learning strategy that supports the development of MTI's workforce by using various methods like in-person training, online courses and blended learning approaches. Ensure alignment with organizational goals and strategic imperatives. 
  • Talent Management Oversight: Oversee talent management initiatives, including the development and management of IDPs, succession planning, and 360-degree feedback surveys.  Ensure these programs are effectively integrated into the overall talent management strategy. 
  • Training Analytics: Develop and implement a measurement system to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs. Utilize data analytics to inform decision-making and optimize the impact of training initiatives. Track and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, gather feedback and making adjustments as needed to improve outcomes. 
  • Program Development for New Managers and People Leaders: Design and develop training programs tailored for newer managers and people leaders. Focus on leadership development, performance management, and other essential skills to ensure success in their roles. 
  • Collaboration: Partner with the HR team and executive leadership to develop and implement training and development programs that align with long-term business strategies. Collaborate with senior leaders to ensure a calendar of events is created, complete with robust follow-up checks for training-related initiatives. 
  • Reporting: Design, develop, and implement reporting tools and capabilities that enable informed training and development decisions, predict potential issues, and plan for future needs. Provide regular updates to leadership on training and development metrics. 
  • Training Program Management: Lead or participate in the implementation of training programs across MTI. Ensure that employees and managers are well-informed about training policies and procedures. 
  • Compliance Initiatives: Lead the coordination of employee compliance initiatives related to training and development, including state-mandated training and company policies. Utilize communication skills to disseminate information within HR and provide regular updates to leadership.  Research Country specific laws and regulations to ensure compliance with all training requirements. 
  • Onboarding: Manage the training and development aspects of the onboarding process, ensuring materials stay up to date and employee feedback is evaluated. Report onboarding data to leadership on a biweekly basis. 
  • Budget Management: Manage the L&D budget effectively ensuring resources are allowed strategically to support training initiatives. 
  • Special Projects: Perform special projects as needed and other duties as assigned.

Operational Excellence/Lean 

  • Actively participates in Minerals Technologies' continuous improvement processes, such as 5S, Kaizen, Hoshin Kanri, FMEA, Daily Management Control, Standard Work, and Problem Solving. 
  • Support maintenance of OE training catalogs and translations in MTI Academy and partner with Business & Resource units to coordinate training initiatives. 

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources administration or related field 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Five to Ten years of experience in Employment Development, Training, Human Resources along with succession planning and LMS experience.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, and Docebo preferred.   

 

Must be able to read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, can work independently, be dependable, maintain confidential information, integrity and composure always, communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization, be adaptable/flexible to changing work assignments, analytical, organized and detail orientedMust be able to multitask, compose correspondence and other documentation in a professional manner, express ideas constructively, use judgment in decision making and use creativity, persistence, persuasion and negotiation when necessary to accomplish necessary duties. Must actively listen to others, coach/instruct others, manage time effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines, be able to identify/judge the urgency of a situation, learn and memorize procedures, display a cooperative attitude, read, understand and follow all company, job specific and safety policies/procedures, and attend/use all required training. 

 

Travel: Travel may occur on an infrequent basis or as needed 

 

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a controlled office environment, moving around the office as needed, sitting at a desk, using office equipment, including but not limited to a personal computer, fax machine, copier and telephone, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, have the ability to work independently, be dependable and maintain confidential information, integrity and composure at all times.  

 

Constant contact with individuals internally and external to the organization at all levels occurs via various methods of communication, typically including face-to-face discussions, electronic mail, phone calls, written letters and/or faxes.

Work Hours: The schedule is typically the day shiftHowever, employees must have ability to work the shift/number of hours in which duties need to be accomplished, including overtime, holidays and weekends, as necessary. 

 

Safety Training:  A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided with New Employee Training by a qualified individual or through the online training system.  Additionally, an employee must be provided with further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position. 

 

Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate or as dictated by government regulations.
