Overview

 

Minerals Technologies Inc. (MTI) is looking for a Communications Coordinator to join its Communications team in New York, NY, reporting to the VP of Communications.

 

Job responsibilities include supporting and driving projects that have an organization-wide impact in corporate communications, marketing, branding, and sustainability at a publicly-listed specialty minerals company with 4,000 employees in 34 countries.

 

This role has daily, direct exposure to senior management of the company and significant room for professional growth and development.

 

The Communications team is small, so the employee will be able to have an immediate impact on how the function operates. The team also works closely with external agencies as well as colleagues in all parts of the organization, so the employee will be able to gain deep insights into MTI’s day-to-day mining, manufacturing, R&D, and sales activities.

 

The role requires a communicator who wants to learn about a complex, global business, with an interest in the industrials sector preferred. The work is hands-on and requires juggling multiple projects and competing priorities. A demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and effectively project manage is a must, as are strong writing skills and a dedication to storytelling, since a key responsibility of the role is to help MTI tell stories about its people, products, and operations to internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Support VP of Communications in overseeing day-to-day communications activities, including in connection with profile-raising, financial communications, internal communications, crisis preparedness, community engagement, and content strategy and development
  • Drive key projects in connection with organization-wide branding and marketing initiatives and ensure branding standards are being met across business units
  • Lead content creation for all internal communications channels, including the intranet and employee newsletter, as well as social media channels
  • Serve as key point of contact for managing intranet content as well as external website content
  • Develop narratives that help internal and external audiences connect what we do as a company to our core values and business strategies
  • Support the company’s sustainability function with content creation and narrative development
  • Maintain an editorial calendar for all internal and external communications channels
  • Manage photo library and visual content across the organization
  • Monitor and interpret communications analytics to demonstrate effectiveness and engagement
  • Engage with senior leaders to define, build, and lead execution of strategic communications plans that support business objectives

Education and Experience

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 – 5 years of in-house corporate or agency communications experience
  • Experience with business writing and content creation for a corporate audience
  • Experience working across digital and creative platforms
  • Experience with marketing communications and branding

Preferred:

  • Experience working for or a strong interest in manufacturing, specialty chemicals, or industrials companies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams applications
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or Canva
  • Familiarity with SharePoint intranet applications
  • Experience creating polished and compelling videos, presentations, and infographics

 

Working Hours and Location

 

Typical work hours are 40 hours a week, but the employee must have flexibility and commitment to work the hours in which duties need to be accomplished, including overtime, holidays, and weekends, as necessary.

 

Working Conditions

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a controlled office environment, moving around the office as needed, sitting at a desk, and using office equipment including but not limited to a personal computer, copier, and telephone. The employee is expected to read, write, speak, and understand English, maintain confidentiality for material information, and comport themselves with integrity at all times.

 

Safety Training

 

A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual or through the online training system. Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.
