Position: Lab Technician

Location: Hoffman Estates, IL

Salary: $60k - $85k based on experience

Job Summary

This is a full-time, entry level laboratory position as a Lab Technician in the CETCO business.  The position will report to the R&D Director and assist R&D scientists.  The CETCO Lab Technician will perform research activities and other tasks as directed in a laboratory, pilot scale or field environment. Records and reports data and properly maintains lab notebook. Follows instructions, performs experiments, collects and records data in accordance with MTI corporate standards and makes diagnostic observations. Able to develop needed lab and pilot scale procedures and methods and perform routine maintenance. Experienced in equipment and lab operations and is able to follow troubleshooting procedures. Takes the lead role in the assembly, operation and disassembly of equipment. Recognizes, uses and is committed to safe lab practices at all times.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

This position is responsible for providing testing and product support for the Water and Remediation business group within CETCO. The successful candidate should be able to learn and perform routine laboratory tests related to our drinking water and environmental remediation product lines. In addition, the candidate should be able to:

• Follow all corporate safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct routine laboratory tests under supervision.
• Prepare and label samples for testing and analysis.
• Record and analyze data accurately and maintain detailed logs.
• Clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Support CETCO staff in research and development projects.

Major / Relevant Field of Study:  The candidate must hold, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in a with an emphasis in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or similar field. 

Requirements:

• BS or MS (preferred) in Science or Engineering discipline required.
• Fluent in the English language with excellent documentation and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Candidate must have also strong work ethic and strong communication skills.
• Ability to perform physical and chemical experiments and tests in a lab, pilot plant, or plant setting
• Ability to operate a computer
• Ability to lift at least 60 lbs (27 kg)
• Experience in a laboratory setting is preferred but not required.  

Licensing: None       

Travel:  Occasional travel may be required to support production trials, prototype testing or customer support for extended periods by air and car. (Less than 20% travel anticipated)

Work Hours:  8 hours per day.  5 days per week.  

Safety Training:  A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual or through the online training system.  Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.  Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate.
