Job Summary :                                                                                           

The QA Technician position is primarily responsible for ensuring all quality targets are met on a daily basis.  Employees may be assigned to perform any task for which they have been qualified.  Employees may also be assigned to positions for which they are working to become qualified as a portion of the training process. 

Responsibilities

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Finished Product Quality Inspections to ensure compliance with product specifications by conducting tests to check for density, clump strength, particle size analysis, moisture, dust, and odor
  • Sample collection from the processing points for testing which includes finish product, work in process, and ingredients
  • Adhere to product hold, rework and scrap procedures including placing questionable product on hold, discarding bad product, placement of positive release products on hold, keeping track of hold/rework/scrap inventory.
  • Input daily information on scrap material and communicate to management for inventory adjustment
  • Input supplier non-conformances for identified issues on the production floor, while receiving or storage.
  • Provide individual or group training to production employees on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), product specifications, SPC, production controls, formulas, visual quality inspection criteria, GMPs, and assist in development of SOPs
  • Assist in preparation for internal and external customer audits
  • In-Process Production Process Monitoring of all the operational areas which includes hourly line inspections for date codes, weight checks, integrity of packaging material, ingredient addition system, inspection of raw materials (limestone, ingredients, and clay)
  • Adhere paperwork processes and document management system, ensuring daily results are input into excel for trending and tracking.
  • Adhere to all applicable job procedures as outlined in SOP manual
  • Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined by the company standards

Qualifications

Position Demands:

Education & Experience:              

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in science or related field
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in servicing or manufacturing of packaging machinery

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Safety and GMP programs and procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office along with excellent analysis, problem assessment, problem solving, attention to detail, and leadership required
  • Respectful, deal with integrity and cooperative demeanor
  • Good oral and written English skills
  • Team player, highly motivated and takes initiative
  • Must be willing to be a hands-on performer and spend at least 80% of the time on the production floor
  • Read, write, speak and understand English

 

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, an employee is typically exposed to dust, loud noise, outside weather conditions and hazardous materials, and may be exposed to high places. Works alone or as part of a team working in close proximity to others and works in close proximity with equipment.

 

Work Hours:

Must have ability to work the shift/number of hours in which duties need to be accomplished, including overtime, holidays, and weekends, as necessary.

 

Safety Equipment:

 

Safety equipment typically required while performing the duties of this job includes a personal red lockout/tagout lock, ANSI approved hard hat and safety glasses with side shields, safety boots/shoes with steel toe protection as well as safety vest. Additional required equipment includes cut resistant gloves and dust masks when performing. Hearing protection is required when performing duties on the floor.  Additional personal protective equipment is available for use if a situation arises where it becomes required or if it is simply desired by the employee.

 

Safety Training:

 

A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is to be provided New Employee Training from a qualified individual, which consists of MTI onboarding and onsite training.  It will include, but is not limited to, the following: forklift/mobile equipment operation and certification/licensing, hazard communication, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, electrical safety, lock out/tag out, personal protective equipment, fire fighting/extinguishers, machine safety, confined spaces, reporting of hazardous conditions, accidents, injuries, near-miss and property damage incidents, evacuation/emergency procedures, first aid, back injury prevention, and job/work area procedures. 

 

Upon transferring to perform the duties of this position for the first time an employee is to be provided New Task Training by a qualified individual until the employee adequately understands the contents of the training, which include job/work area procedures and related topics.  Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.
