Job Summary:

Logistics Planners are responsible for managing and planning orders in the Oracle Transportation Module (OTM) to optimize logistics execution and cost. Responsible for managing all activities related to transportation, including researching, planning, implementing, and tendering freight to contracted carriers while controlling the efficient, cost-effective movement of products to meet MTI and customer's requirements. This role will report to corporate logistics as part of the strategic global supply chain.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring all loads are covered in a timely manner that are assigned to the Logistics Planner
  • Scope of load planning Outbound & Inbound TL, Rail, LTL and Ocean (Prepaid & Collect)
  • Communicate with Customer Service, Operations and/or Sales team as needed regarding orders / shipments / issues, etc.
  • Monitor bulk planning process in OTM to minimize exceptions and orders that fail to plan/create shipments
  • Identify, trouble shoot and resolve exceptions in the load planning process
  • Monitor tendering process and OTM shipment status to ensure all loads are tender accepted
  • Communicate with carriers to ensure contractual obligations are met during tendering process
  • Track shipments for on-time arrivals and departures and report accordingly
  • Contact carriers as necessary to determine shipment status
  • Collaborate with other team members
  • Communicate and escalate when critical shipments do not have carrier coverage
  • Identify and escalate recurring system issues to IT team
  • Respond to e-mails/inquiries from internal customers such as customer service, planning, logistics operations teams, sales
  • Respond to e-mails/inquiries from external customers such as carriers
  • Communicate with Purchasing and Suppliers in order to release PO’s for Inbound goods / materials to be planned in OTM
  • Maintain Location (Ship To, Customers, Ship From, Suppliers) information such as address, calendar, contacts, etc
  • Resolve freight invoice payment disputes / rejects
  • Monitor / Assess and Manage carrier performance and perform supplier quality management audits with transport suppliers
  • Responsible for providing logistics solutions based upon relative cost and benefits to meet customer needs
  • Assess and recommend ideal shipping methods, routing or carriers to meet necessary parameters, specifications and costs
  • Ensure that transportation modes, frequency of transports and routing are as efficient and as cost effective as possible.
  • Strategically planning and managing logistics, warehouse, transportation and customer services
  • Executes overall logistics strategy as set by MTI
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with our logistics providers

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in Business or related field preferred
  • Minimum of three - five years’ experience. 
  • Strong Oracle E-Business Suite Application knowledge a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
  • Proven working experience in supply chain and logistics
  • Record of successful distribution and logistics management
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, team-based environment
  • Able to manage time effectively
  • Strong people skills, analytical skills and business acumen
  • Strong communication, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of company practices, structure, policy and procedure or the ability to learn and retain quickly.

Travel: Travel may occur domestically as required

 

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a controlled office environment, moving around the office as needed, sitting at a desk, using office equipment, including but not limited to a personal computer, fax machine, copier and telephone, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, have the ability to work independently, be dependable and maintain confidential information, integrity and composure at all times.

 

Constant contact with individuals internal and external to the organization occurs via various methods of communication, typically including face-to-face discussions, electronic mail, phone calls, written letters and/or faxes.

 

On an as needed basis, there may be exposure to plant areas, which include exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes.

 

Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual or through the online training system.  Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.

 

Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate or as dictated by government regulations. Employee must have the ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing and to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
