Position: Operations Manager

Location: USA | Canaan, CT

Compensation: $135k - $150k annually based on experience

 

Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operation including production, maintenance, and administrative functions of the site. Coordinates with Quality Assurance to ensure products are produced in
accordance with customer specifications, ensures compliance with in-process testing and sampling, and ensures customer satisfaction. Regularly interfaces with sales, marketing, and customer service to meet customers’ needs. Oversees
planning and execution to ensure long term goals and objectives are met. Strong emphasis that operations follow applicable EH&S regulations affecting the site and employees; maintains a safe working environment and an atmosphere of continuous improvement through application of Lean principles.

Responsibilities

Operational Excellence
Manage the operations and employees through use of Operational Excellence via5S, Kaizen, TPM, Standard work, Kanban systems etc.
 
Monitor plant production, quality, and efficiency.
Develop and communicate with plant staff the quality, safety, customer service, and production goals and issues. Prepare, review, and monitor financial statements including incoming orders, shipping, budgets, capital expenditures, etc. Continually monitor plant operations including cost savings opportunities, maintenance issues, quality, etc. Manage raw materials and inventory costs.
 
Lead plant personnel.
Impart the philosophy of High-Performance Work Systems to all site team members. Manage the performance of plant personnel through setting goals and objectives, regular performance evaluations, disciplinary action, and career development. Supervise, motivate, and develop other Staff members. Conduct training on various topics including safety, plant objectives, and other performance improving training. Communicate and support all Company policies and procedures to all employees.
 
Capital budgeting and project analysis.
Develop and coordinate yearly plant budget. Examine Return on Income justification for all capital expenditures. Supervise and engineer plant capital projects.
 
Administrative functions.
Communicate with upper management, other plants, finance, human resources, environmental safety & health, etc. on appropriate issues. Responsible for complying with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations that may affect the plant (e.g. – safety, human resources, environmental, etc)

Qualifications

Knowledge:
Must have a well-developed Operational Excellence understanding, including 5s, Kaizen, TPM, Standard work and
Kanban systems. A bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred and/or possessing significant
experience in manufacturing processes, customer service, quality procedures, project management and office
administration.
 
Skills & Abilities:
Good leadership, management, and communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong customer
focus for both internal and external customers. Strong oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated balance
between analytical and creative thinking are all required. Must demonstrate a willingness to challenge conventional ideas and to be flexible and be able to function effectively in a Lean team environment.
 
Physical & Mental:
Sitting, standing, and working in an office environment. Must be able to gather organize, and analyze data, draw conclusions, and handle a moderate level of stress. Must wear safety equipment as required.
 
General:
Microsoft Office Competency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Access) required. Knowledge of Oracle business system is a plus.
