Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor

Location: Dyersburg, TN

 

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the planning, execution, and overall management of the site’s maintenance program. This position is responsible for driving equipment improvements which increase productivity, reduce waste, and support a key strategic initiative: to implement a sustainable reliability program. This position requires proven competencies and skills in reliability engineering, capabilities to integrate the design, development, deployment, suitable maintenance, and measurement of system equipment.

Responsibilities

The Maintenance Supervisor: directly supervises a team of Maintenance Technicians, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation skill sets; drives Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives as set by site-specific and  MTI objectives; supports, trains, and develops Maintenance Technicians and Production Operators to utilize TPM tools; and ensures an overall increase in mechanical availability of the plant’s wide-ranging operational process and utility equipment and instrumentation. Static equipment includes hoppers, aspirator,  holding vessels, silos, process vessels, mixers/agitators, filters, valves, elevators, conveyors, and more. Rotating equipment includes compressors, gear boxes, motors and more.

 

The Maintenance Supervisor also supports the roles of: process engineering and project management in identifying and executing critical asset capital appropriation and funding projects; quality management in investigating equipment failure, including mechanical and technical root cause analysis.

 

This is a full-time position located in Dyersburg, TN :

  • Pertaining to cat litter production systems utilizing clays and limestone as fillers.
  • With potential to optimize and change administrative site processes to maximize production capacity, safeguards, and quality in a rapidly growing business environment.

 

Administrative support will be provided as needed to increase success probability.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Actively contribute to the safe operation of the site, participating and leading group efforts in safety engagement programs such as 5S, Gemba, Near Miss reporting, Non-Routine Task Review (NRTR), Job Observation, risk assessment by Residual Risk Reduction (R3) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methods, and ergonomic best practices
  • Manage the execution of safe work permits as required by company safety procedures; utilize site’s employee accountability program for the safety, accuracy and thoroughness of team’s work performed
  • Supervise daily/weekly workloads of Maintenance Techs, monitoring Work Order throughput for all reactive, preventive, and calibration maintenance scheduled
  • Train and coach plant staff on proper operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Work closely with Maintenance Techs and Production Operators to troubleshoot equipment; drive continuous improvement and develop team’s troubleshooting capabilities
  • Manage the maintenance budget; control spending of maintenance activities, equipment/replacement parts purchases, and contract maintenance work; meet the requirements of budgeted targets related to maintenance repairs and related operational expenses; ability to adjust and re-prioritize when necessary
  • Evaluate mechanical deviation, from minor to critical failure events; provide technical guidance in the repair and improvement of equipment
  • Support quality management in executing equipment change control procedures as required; pertains to equipment replacement, redesign, and upgrades of systems impacting production processes of products in pharmaceutical scope
  • Drive to implement an electronic equipment database containing manufacturers’ operating manuals, technical drawings, design specifications, plant operating procedures, and historical data/summaries of Preventive Maintenance (PM) templates & executed forms, executed calibrations, and overall historical reliability condition
  • Drive creation and revision of Visual Standard Work (VSW) as needed; ensure all standard work procedures and manuals are current by periodic auditing
  • Perform root cause failure analysis of equipment breakdown; assist investigation team when necessary with root cause determination of other types of system/process failures, communicating best of knowledge of engineering and industry standards
    • Lead investigation team in identifying effective corrective and preventive action plans for improvement and sustainability
    • Develop permanent solutions to equipment and system problems; develop timelines and milestones, define deliverables, and establish & monitor performance metrics, field implementation, and follow-up
  • Support manufacturing and continuous improvement through reliability centered initiatives aimed at improving mechanical availability and efficiency through TPM program
  • Monitor mechanical downtime; conduct gap analyses
    • Use data to determine effectiveness of Preventive Maintenance (PM) program and identify areas of improvement
    • Use data to launch Predictive Maintenance (PdM) program
  • Work closely with personnel to interpret equipment and predictive maintenance data to design a reliability program that aims to increase mechanical availability and decrease costs
  • Determine equipment failure analysis by measuring mean time between failures (MTBF) and mean time to failure (MTTF); maintain data and utilize metrics to predict normal operation of repairable

 

mechanical systems throughout production areas; use same metrics to identify unrepairable mechanical systems and prioritize capital planning and appropriation

  • Ultimately drive down to zero recurrent mechanical failures
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategy and standards for lubrication, vibration, alignment, precision maintenance, bearing handling, etc.
  • Deploy MRO/spare parts module within Oracle system; identify full needs of critical spare parts on- hand inventory and associated costs
  • Utilize Power BI and other company software applications; maintain performance dashboards related to mechanical availability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) metrics and results
  • Contribute to equipment segments of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) events and other various risk assessment and reduction initiatives
  • Support capital improvement projects related to new design and replacement critical assets based on equipment life-cycle
    • Identify value-added projects with highest return on investment (ROI) and/or greatest risk reduction; develop improvement strategy to effectively close gaps, ensuring alignment with long-term sustainability objectives and conformity with industry standards and best practices
    • Identify and source moderate- and large-scale equipment and instrumentation that aim to improve safety, productivity, reliability, quality, environmental impact, and/or cost
    • Ensure design and specifications deliver according to capability, capacity, and efficiency objectives; ensure design meets operability demands of the company and customer
    • Obtain bid estimations for equipment and installation according to MTI policies
    • Assist the Project Team in conducting risk assessments
    • Assist leadership team in identifying/defining success criteria for recommissioning events, including system performance expectations, safety requirements (zero recordable injuries, zero first aid injuries, and reduced risk), environmental requirements per state and local governing, and GMP/Quality release per approved change control procedures
    • Provide supporting materials to project management, may include but not limited to: current state challenges for replacement or redesign projects; equipment’s projected life-cycle, benefits/advantages, and disadvantages; mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation specifications and drawings; applicable bid scenarios; summary of recommissioning risks; equipment maintenance plan and costs to maintain long-term
    • Execute equipment installs or manage contractors hired to do so
    • Manage recommissioning upon completion of projects
  • Assist in annual forecasting of capital expenditure projects, prioritizing capital needs according to quantified predictive data; provide support in development and communication of 3 to 5-year capital planning.

Education:        Preferred – Associate Degree in Reliability or Mechanical Engineering

 

Experience:

  • Highly preferred – 7+ years’ experience in maintenance supervision and reliability maintenance in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Broad knowledge of reliability and/or mechanical engineering principles
  • Strong understanding of repairable parts maintenance (RPM)
  • Demonstrated strengths in achieving results, reducing downtime, and improving equipment reliability
  • Demonstrated knowledge of root cause failure analysis and problem-solving
  • Preferred – Strong understanding of various plant functions, well-developed business understanding, and proven working knowledge of customer requirements.

 

Safety Training:

  • Preferred – Knowledgeable in fatality prevention industry standards and practices, including fall protection, mobile equipment separation, LOTOTO, confined space entry, stairway safety, and combustible dust.
  • Preferred – Knowledgeable in general OSHA safety regulations
  • Actively participate as trainer and trainee respective to all government, company, and job specific safety policies/procedures; attend, accurately interpret, and practice all required training.

Work Hours:

  • M-F 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with ability to work the number of hours needed to get job duties accomplished
  • After hours remote or onsite occasionally necessary
  • Required – Schedule flexibility; must have ability to work production shift when support is needed
  • Weekends when necessary
  • At times must be available for 24-hr call.

 

Travel:

  • Not likely during first 12 months
  • Infrequent travel may occur domestically or internationally as needed.
