MTI Business Segment: Minteq International Inc.

Position: Shop Supervisor

 

 

Summary

Acts as the primary point of contact between Minteq, site employees, and host mill personnel, ensuring excellent customer service, clear communication, and effective execution of all on‑site work.

This position will require travel.

Responsibilities

The incumbent, under routine supervision, is responsible for:

  • Serve as the primary customer contact for all jobs conducted on site; communicate status, resolve issues, and provide operational solutions.
  • Lead employee relations activities, including coaching, conflict resolution, and performance feedback, in a unionized work environment.
  • Operate effectively in environments with no onsite EHS support, ensuring ownership and enforcement of all safety programs.
  • Maintain a hands‑on supervisory presence, actively participating in and overseeing daily operations as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with host mill management and personnel.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in supporting multiple sites as business needs require.
  • Supervising Minteq employees in applying product in customer site(s).
  • Maintaining all Minteq’s on-site equipment.
  • Maintaining appropriate records including but not limited to personnel records, training documents, purchase orders, etc.
  • Ensuring that material inventories are maintained, rotated, and updated.
  • Maintain min/max inventory system with monthly reporting of maintenance cost.
  • Develop and manage shop work schedules that promote efficient operations and effectively control overtime.
  • Complete detailed overtime report by pay period with detailed explanations of OT cause

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related industrial experience, preferably in steel mill and/or refractory operations.
  • Prior leadership experience (Crew Leader, Supervisor, or equivalent) required.
  • Previous experience working in a unionized environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and operational issues.
  • Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions in a fast‑paced industrial environment.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills; able to serve as the primary on‑site representative.
  • Proven ability to manage employee relations effectively.
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance in the absence of onsite EHS resources.
  • Hands‑on leadership style with the ability to lead by example.
  • Organization, planning and communication skills. Must be able to read and understand lasers.
  • Computer proficiency required, including the ability to efficiently use systems for daily operational and administrative tasks.

Education:

 A high school diploma is require
