Pay: $90k - 110k annually

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Technical Service Team of MINTEQ provides all of the advantages of working for a global organization, with locations around the world, while being part of a local team.

Working with our local Sales, Service, and Application Technology ( Engineering ) teams in North America at our steel  and industrial customers,  as a Technical Support Specialist  you will provide technical service support for integration of new and existing products ( refractory and metallurgical wire ) & equipment ( Application Systems).   Provided support maintains existing business and promotes the acquisition of new business.  This includes understanding the various equipment systems employed by MINTEQ to deliver our materials for maximum value.  This has a critical function serving a as a liaison between customers, sales, service, R&D and Ferrotron ( laser team ).   

 

Technical Support Function:

  • Provide technical product support across the entire portfolio of MINTEQ monolithic products.
  • Understand the application systems within each market segment and have a deep knowledge of best practices for materials, application of materials in the field, and associated equipment delivery systems.  
  • Assist in the sales process as a technical expert as required.
  • In depth monitoring and timely, detailed reporting of product and equipment trials for short & extended periods.
  • Identify and facilitate best practice sharing throughout entire MINTEQ team.
  • General understanding of the Ferrotron laser system including LaCam and SCANTROL software  to allow discussion with customer management and MINTEQ Sales and Service with regards to abnormal wear areas, trend identification, etc.
  • Provide product / equipment presentations for training and educational purposes to internal & external customers.
  • Serve as liaison between Customer / Sales / Steel Mill Service / Customer Service / Application Technology ( Engineering ) / R&D for product / equipment support needs.

Service Function:

  • Provide general tech support internally for MINTEQ sales team, MINTEQ SMS team, MINTEQ customer service.
  • Provide general tech support for external customers via onsite service calls, telephone, email, TEAMS meeting, etc.
  • Provide field support of new and existing products and equipment for all segments.
  • Travel to customer sites and provide general knowledge and facilitate customer discussion on LaCam laser systems and Scantrol software operations ( training to be provided ).
  • Interact with customer operations personnel to obtain good VOC on the performance of MINTEQ materials and installation systems.

OE/Lean

Actively participates in the implementation of sustainable improvement processes, such as 5S, Kaizen, Daily Management Control, Standard Work and Problem Solving.

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree desired (engineering degree / technical background preferred ).  5 or more years of relevant industry experience desired, but not mandatory.
  • Extensive knowledge of monolithic refractory products and their application methods preferred.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge and experience with refractory market segments, specifically EAF, BOF, ladles, and caster.
  • Knowledge of aluminum, cement, and power generation production processes is a plus.
  • Willing and able to travel throughout the USA and Canada to support MINTEQ business.
  • Ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint software.
  • Good English knowledge, particularly technical terminology related to steelmaking.
  • Good communication skills required to work with external customers with a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Willing and capable of working with a cross-functional team with members that have a highly diverse set of skills, experience and roles to serve within the team to ensure success with our customers.
  • The ability and confidence to work with international customers and colleagues periodically.
  • Understanding and adherence to Operational Excellence, specifically 5S, Standard Work, and the PDCA cycle.
  • Ability to work under demanding conditions when trouble shooting is required.

Physical & Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. as required.
  • Ability to sit behind computer  screen and/or in a pulpit for multiple hours.
  • Able to work in a hot or cold environment within a steel mill or other industrial production site.
  • Ability to travel within North America by air or automobile.   Trave can be as low as 20% of time and as high as 80% of time depending upon business conditions and equipment installation schedules driven by customer needs.
  • Be available outside of normal business hours for emergency technical support needs as they arise.
